The Great Ocean Road

There are some spectacular limestone rock formations, and some interesting history on this area known as the Shipwreck Coast.

One of the more than 700 shipwrecks happened on reefs of the coast . The "Loch Ard" sank in 1878 and only two of the fifty four people survived. Tom Pearce went back to save Eva Carmichael, having been washed into the gorge which now bears the ships name.

Some of the best know sights of the Great Ocean Road are the Twelve Apostles and London Bridge

London Bridge has fallen down. On January 15th 1990 one of the arches collapsed into the sea. At the time there were people on the seaward side who were rescued by helicopter.
